Резюме:
The article focuses on structural and functional aspects of the
joke text that serve the primary communicative goal of the joke: to
amuse. Incongruity and script opposition are the two abstract notions
used to explicate humor in the joke text. When humor is explained
from a sociological perspective, incongruity and script opposition
are only the means, but not the cause of verbal humor. From such a
perspective, the cause of humor is sought in the broader social context
of the joke that is not necessarily verbally stated. The ambiguous and
paradoxical nature of humor in jokes is also commented on, as well
as the fuzzy boundary between the humorous and the serious.
