In this paper we investigate the grammatical category of degree of adjectives, and the problems associated with its establishment in the Russian language. Particular attention is paid to the place of the elative in the system of grammatical meanings, as it remains largely controversial. In the second part, we refer to the opinion of researchers on similar matters found in the Bulgarian language.
