Резюме:
This text examines the artistic project Sound Surfaces, presented as an exhibition on 11 April 2024, in the Raphael Mihailov exhibition halls, Debut Hall, in Veliko Tarnovo. The exhibition shows the final result of an assignment under the overarching theme of Visual Music. The process was carried out by students from the Painting, Mural Painting, and Sculpture specialties as part of the Intermedia course embedded in the operational structure of the Drawing and Intermedia programme. The article aims to clarify how intermedia works should be perceived in the context of an ongoing debate about art – how intermedial practices are both adaptable and valid within contemporary educational discourse. To achieve this, the focus is placed on redefining key concepts within the operational vocabulary of art studies, such as aesthetics, the purpose of art, artistic value, the essence of the creative act, etc. Such a re-examination and update of our thinking will provide a more precise understanding of how we should perceive not only intermedia works but also the creative process behind them and a respective revision of educational methodological approaches.
