Резюме:

The present article follows aspects of the artistic biography and life of Emanuil Popgenchev. It offers a detailed analysis of specific artworks from different periods of the author. The painter’s pictorial work is undoubtedly of exceptional importance for the history of Bulgarian art from the second half of the 20th and the first decade of the 21st century. His works are distinguished by their controlled emotionality, with which he recreates the complex plots, constructed from geometrically outlined and decoratively stylized color fields. Through his pictorial space, Emanuil Popgenchev presents his philosophy of life about the eternal struggle between good and evil, about beginning and end, shown through a symbolism based on images of people, animals, objects, often signs, in most cases highly stylized.
