Резюме:

This article discusses the ideological, archetypal and symbolical treatment of the motive of “Bulgarian matriarchy” in fiction writing from the 1960s, analyzing Georgi Mishev’s short novel Matriarchy (1967), and two short story collections We were born dragons (1969) by Yordan Valchev and The roots by Vasil Popov (1967). The significance of the motive in this decade is determined by the dramatical changes in the life of Bulgarians, when their family traditions are disrupted during the time of socialism. The author analyzes the archetypal genesis in the collection We were born dragons and the emergence in the literary text of myths typical of the national cultural model. The analysis is directed also at the creative mechanisms applied while Yordan Valchev writes his stories. These are considered in view of the Jungian concept of numinous experience, the mythological code of the character system and the ability of literary communication to create a sense of “reality” in the reception of the plot.
