The article aims at interpreting the peculiarities of the lexical and semantic category of diminutiveness in diachronic prospect, using as an example the development of the very rare word ã¹ìüíüöå ‘tonsure, the cut part of the hair on the scalp among the representatives of the clergy‘. The analysis lays upon the South Slavonic written evidences referring to the so called Kormcaja from Ilovica, 1262, and the canon law patrimony. The word is interpreted with regards of the process of transposition – the turn of a spoken lexeme into a specific religious term. Following the semantic transformation of the appellative ã¹ìüíî ‘threshing floor‘ into ã¹ìüíüöå ‘tonsure‘, the author argues with the opinion of Moravian or Russian provenance of the Christian term, claiming its common Slavic character, and the common creative process of building up specific Slavonic Christian terminology starting from basic human views and association analogies.
