This report examines and analyzes the difficulties and challenges faced by managers using the competency approach and some methods to overcome them. The need for a new approach and a new point of view in defining and using the competencies in the activity and the improvement of the modern organization is justified. Bulgarian and world studies in the field of the challenges in the use of competencies and the competency approach in the management of the human resources in the organization are examined
